Droit du Seigneur is a black comedy about red wine and its fashionable status as a symbol of privilege and power. Two young lords of Wall Street celebrate bonus day with a night out and learn that sometimes, getting everything they want can mean getting nothing they need.
In 2005, a few like-minded artists created Commonwealth Classic Theatre Company. Mary Ann Baldwin, Founding Producing Artistic Director, identified a need in the community: the lack of a theatre company which, like the Public Theatre in New York, could make theatre accessible to al— bringing productions of classic plays to outdoor spaces throughout the five county area of Philadelphia. This need led to CCTC’s inaugural program, Free Theatre in the Parks. CCTC has brought six summer productions – free - to thousands of audience members —The Miser (2010), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2009), Taming of the Shrew (2008), The Game of Love and Chance (2007), Much Ado About Nothing (2006), and Arms and the Man (2005); and has presented affordable 4-Walled Theatre programming including readings of new plays and a full production of Love’s Labor’s Lost by William Shakespeare as Drexel University’s Mandell Professionals in Residence (MPiRP) in 2007.
